as much as, in modern days, it has become increasingly difficult to pin things down to a specific genre this release brings very defined genres but also a refreshing feature, a constant change of energy in one single track, and most importantly, it all comes with this modern feel to it which indicates it is the new generation rising making justice to what ultrastretch stands for, surfacing fresh and new talents. signed by austrian duo foehn & jerome. the a side is of the ep consists of the genius idea that it is a relatively simple track, however, with the feel that so much is happening, the type when you listen to a loop but one you can listen to forever and not get tired of it, always the best sign. a rolling and constant bassline makes it into a super fat and rounded dancefloor groover, while on top you have these fragments of chopped up vocal samples in and out creating a sense of confusion, a mind drilling element is then complemented by very loose and fine hihats floating around. on the b side starts with quirky minimal track with a galloping kick throughout, when the open hihats slam in with a vocal it quickly develops into a very happy and playful housy vibe and just when you are riding, the clap slams in now on a tighter hat sequence followed by the break and rebuilding, when it comes back however it adds another element changing the energy yet again, through introducing a synthline. the quirky frog sounding noises throughout certainly makes it a super witty track overall.

rekids introduces a new vinyl only series titled rekids special projects. a more techno orientated division of the label that will feature appearances from the likes of john hester, markus suckut, and dj deep amongst others. first up is ohio-based producer fbk, real name kevin m. kennedy, who has a career spanning three decades and after a seminal release on frictional recordings back in the 90 s recent releases have seen him appear on labels such as marcel dettmann records, barba records and diametric. intricate drums and jagged synths initiate you are not fixed whilst a looped sample recurs throughout the mix. ‘dynamonium’ then enters deeper territories as echoing stabs join a low slung meandering groove before set it free ups the energy with rumbling kicks, distorted vocal murmurs and tantalizing melodies. the final escape then closes the release with a syncopated drum arrangement, mesmerising chords and ethereal atmospherics

slam city jams is back with its second release, produced by young brussel based artist kassett. this multi-talented dude not only makes great music, but also does visual arts (look at that amazing fanzine coming with the record) and has his own label & artist collective called midlife. kassett aka gavin vanælst isn’t about genres, but about emotions when it comes to his music. however, asking him what he would call the sound he makes, his simple answer is: rave ambient. the all i feel 1 million ep‘ is a record full of diversity. it reaches from emotional and dreamy, arp-based ambient tracks with rave and trance references, to broken beats, weird synth solos, up to a rough but melodious techno tune. finally the cherry on top of this special ep, is a remix by lobster theremin regular imre kiss. he delivered a dark and dubby version of the a2, that sounds like it was recorded underwater.

there was a time when to die was something slightly different from what it is today. back in the last days of the middle age, some hidden monk was concerned about how to die properly, according to the catholic standarts of that era, so he wrote a book that was a cornerstone in that period. this has been the leitmotiv and inspiration in the concept that drives this album, the ars moriendi book from 1415, a book that gave some clues about how to die properly, avoiding lack of faith, despair, impatience, avarice or spiritual pride, all those actually track titles in this compendium.

deep purple’s 19th studio album sees the light of day. it is being released by the german based label earmusic. the band’s last studio effort dates back to 2005’s ‘rapture of the deep’ so this is a long time coming.
this will make album number four to feature steve morse on guitar and the third with keyboardist don airey. as previously reported, concrete information on the album title is, shall we say, up in the air. “there’s a big question mark over the name at the moment. and possibly an exclamation mark as well.” vocalist ian gillan told classic rock magazine.

savage times fing als experiment an und dokumentiert die unmittelbare, künstlerische entwicklung hanni el khatibs. ursprünglich wurde der großteil der songs auf savage times bereits zuvor auf fünf eps nach und nach veröffentlicht. diese compilation vereint alle eps und enthält zudem vier weitere, neue bonustracks. el khatib startete das projekt im dezember 2015. die aufnahmen zu den songs wurden in jonny bells (crystal antlers) jazz cats studios aufgenommen. dafür fuhr hanni el khatib täglich von l.a. nach long beach. auf der stundenlangen autofahrt kamen ihm oft die ideen für seine tracks. hanni el khatib wollte sich nicht mehr auf ein genre festlegen und ließ sich einfach von seinem musikalischen instinkt leiten. sobald ein song fertig produziert war, veröffentlichte er ihn. savage times zeigt, wie wandelbar sein sound ist: garage rock, punk, disco, grime und hip hop fügen sich hier konsistent ineinander, über die eigenen grenzen hinweg
